Event Info and Check-In Times
Please join us Saturday, April 17, 2010 for a day of family fun in the Flint Hills of Pottawatomie County, KS. The 6th Annual Cabin Fever Challenge will begin/finish at Wamego Middle School, 1701 Kaw Valley Rd., Wamego, KS. Registration begins at 7am. Wamego will be celebrating Tulip Festival throughout the weekend.
New this year:
- Technical jersey, an ATAC Sportswear product. 1st order was submitt February 19 and will be available at Cabin Fever. A 2nd order willl be submitted March 26 & your order must be received by March 26. Arrival will be approx 6 wks later. $5 extra to have them mailed to you. The order form is available here.
- Yahtzee Run. Each player will pay $5 to play 1 scorecard (maximum of 2 scorecards per rider). RULES: Roll 5 dice three times at the Middle School before Mass Starts. First roll will function as a possible tie-breaker. Each player will roll 5 dice twice at the mid-point in route and twice at the end. Score card will be validated at each location. Score cards that have not be validated will not count. Highest score wins. Winner will be awarded 50% of income paid out to them as a prize.
- Nutrition info (Sponsored by Hy-Vee). Karen Hanson, RD, LD, CHFS will offer literature and information on 'loading' before an athletic endeavor, and will provide chocolate milk for the returning riders. According to Karen, tests show that chocolate milk is one of the best foods for 'refueling' after exercise. Check back for potential snacks that Karen might have available.
This year's event will include a Bike Swap Meet from 1pm-230pm. This is a great opportunity to buy/sell/trade your cycling related items. Be sure to read about the Swap Meet. Items available for the Swap Meet will be posted here.
Net proceeds from the ride are deposited in the 501c3 WAM-SAG-MAN Trail account in the Wamego Community Foundation. You can donate on-line directly to the trail fund by accessing this page www.thewcf.org/Giving/donate.shtml.
Shipping your bike or renting a bike
If you are flying into Manhattan for this event and want to ship your bicycle, contact The Pathfinder, 785-539-5639. Dave Colburn is the Manager and the mailing address is: 304 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502. They charge $20-$40 to reassemble your bicycle. Make sure your bike arrives before April 16.
If you are flying into Manhattan and want to rent a bicycle, contact Big Poppi's Bike Shop, 785-537-3737. Contact them ASAP to make sure they have a bicycle to fit your needs.
Cabin Fever Challenge includes three paved routes:
53.4 mile Route: Map
Check-in: 7 am until 8:15 am.
Mass start: All riders depart at 830 am.
37 mile Route: Map
Check-in: 7 am until 8:15 am.
Mass start: All riders depart at 830 am.
16 mile Route: Map
Check-in: 7 am until 8:45 am.
Mass Start: All riders depart at 9 am.
Riders may turn around at any point during the 16-mile route to customize riding distance.
Course closes for all routes at 2 pm.
Pre-Registration
Your pre-registration form must be received by March 26, 2010 to guarantee the Cabin Fever Challenge cotton tee. Pre-registration is $30 for the 37 and 53.4 mile routes. Pre-registration is $20 for the 16 mile route. All entry fees are non-refundable. Fee goes up $5 if you register after March 26 or if you register the morning of the ride.
Breakfast is available for non-riding family/friends for $7 if the pre-registration form is received by April 12*.
Our caterer needs a ‘head count’ so we have enough of her great food. This means that breakfast is available if you pre-register (riders and non-riders) by April 12.

Pre-Registered Entry Fee Includes
- 2010 Cabin Fever Challenge cotton tee (if pre-registered by March 26)
- Breakfast before the ride (7 am – 845 am) (*for riders and non-riders if pre-registered by April 12)
- Fruit, homemade cookies and other snacks, water and Gatorade at rest stops
- The Pathfinder will provide mechanical support at the start (7am-845am).
- Big Poppi's will provide a wrench station at the Louisville Rd rest stop.
- Support vehicles.
- Shower facilities at Wamego Middle School. Please bring your own towel, soap, etc.
- Complimentary sports massages provided by the American Academy of Massage Therapy.
Rest Stops
Rest stops will be about every 8-17 miles. We will have support vehicles traveling the route if transportation is required. Your bicycle should be in good working order and you should carry a repair kit that includes spare tube, patch kit, and frame pump, etc. Riders unable to finish will be transported back to Wamego Middle School.
Driving Directions
On Interstate 70, take exit 328 (Hwy. 99). Go north on Hwy. 99, 10.2 miles to Wamego. Hwy 99 changes to Lincoln Street at Wamego. At the Hwy 24 & Lincoln Street/Hwy 99 intersection, go west .5 miles until you reach Kaw Valley Road. Take a right and go .4 miles to the Wamego Middle School. Parking is available in the school parking lot. Registration tables are located inside the school (East entrance).

Colorado Peace Ride August 8 – 11, 2010. Be the Ride, Experience the Peace: a 4-day, 238-mile bicycle tour along the entire San Juan Skyway out of Durango. The fully supported ride provides free retreats for a wide range of non-profits at the Sophia Peace Center in Dolores, CO. Save $75 if you register by June 1st at the ThePeaceRide.com. A team of riders can ride and 50% of your fundraising dollars could be given back to the WamSagMan Trail project following the ride.
